The death penalty, when it is enforced, is a deterrent to violent crime. The statistics that try to link murder rates to states with the death penalty laws on the books are misleading. They are all over the place, because they don't consider other relevant factors such as data on law endorsement, demographics, income levels, and a myriad of other data. But, when you compare the correlation of actual executions across the board in the US, to the murder rate there is a DIRECT CORRELATION that is undeniable from 1950. Check out the data for yourself and don't be fooled by the false statistics: http://www.prodeathpenalty.com/images/dpstatsyearly7wq.jpg

I agree with David in that the people of Connecticut can not afford tax increases. I have seen my taxes increase in Brookfield every year for the last 16 years. We are even having a tax increase this year which to me is completely unacceptable. Town and state governments need to control spending and make cuts just as the residents in the state are having to do. Many of us are doing without in our daily lives. Government needs to do the same.

Dear Representative Scribner,

I support your stand against the Democratic Majority's push to raise taxes on employers, and applaud your efforts to fight for reducing state expenditures.

Every American is making necessary cuts in their own personal spending in order to weather this recession. We espect our government to do the same.

Regards,
Pamela Kurtz

I have been a resident in Bethel for about 34 years and feel you on the right track as far as your proposals to keep taxes under control. It appears you are one of the few politicians who has not forgotten they are public servants and not dictators. I am very disappointed in the direction this state has taken and feel most incumbents should be voted out of office during re-election; I plan to work toward that end. Thank you for your efforts.
